State of the Union panel 1: Courtesy of the artists – Conditions of creative labour
In conjunction with State of the Union exhibition at the Ian Potter Museum, on Tuesday 4 September, 6.00- 7.30pm I will be speaking on a panel discussing the precarious working conditions of Australian artists. Gabrielle de Vietri will convene the discussion with speakers Megan Evans, David Pledger, Timmah Ball and myself.
With no federal arts policy to speak of, dwindling public funding and precarious working conditions, artists have never felt so vulnerable. What are the collective changes that artists, arts workers and institutions can make to transform the arts into a sustainable and equitable sector? Hear from artists, arts advocates and union organisers in a solution-driven discussion about the issues the art sector faces, and how the situation ties in with a broader political agenda.
Presented in partnership with the Artists Subcommittee. The State of the Union panel series is supported by the City of Melbourne Arts Grants Program.
